As a team they have enormous experience of the complete spectrum of knee disorders, including arthroscopic knee surgery, advanced ligament reconstruction, cartilage transplant and regeneration technique, meniscal transplant, corrective osteotomy of the lower limb, partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, salvage surgery for the correction of ununited or malunited fractures, and more complicated knee revision surgery.

They run a successful international postgraduate knee course (The Exeter Knee Masterclass), a recognised subspecialist fellowship programme, and have lectured extensively worldwide on modern techniques and improvements in all aspects of knee surgery including custom knee replacement and computer navigation. The team have published their surgical results widely in the literature and have a comprehensive programme of research ranging from the basic science surrounding cartilage cells and bone stress, the biomechanics and kinematics of implants and the clinical results from randomised clinical trials of new innovative surgical techniques.

They collaborate closely with Exeter, Bath and Bristol Universities and are part of an number of national institute of health programme grant trials as well as being on national and international knee development and research committees.
